A building in pure southern gothic style...
Under the reign of Sanche of Majorca, the cathedral was built in 1324 on the model of a 3-nave church. Further works in 1433 transformed the building into a one-towering-nave church. It was consacrated only in 1509 and raised to the dignity of a cathedral in 1601, to the detriment of Elne's church.
Its rolled stones and bricks facade remained unfinished. A porch, the only vestige of a more important construction, was added in 1631. Beautiful retables of Catalan baroque style - 17th and 18th centuries - can be found in lateral chapels.
