Castelnou is a remarkable not-to-be-missed site in Catalogne and one of the five villages in the county to hold the quality label ?plus beaux villages de France? (most beautiful villages in France). A medieval village having kept its authenticity, with artists and craftsmen who offer the fruits of their labour and finished artwork in the village square.
On arrival at the Castelnou pass, you will discover this village with the Canigou in the background, mythical mountain of all the Catalans (2 784.66 m) and the viscount castle built from 988-990.
Stop at the car park in the pass, look around, let your imagination take over, and let yourself be transported back in time to when Castlenou was the capital of the viscountship of Vallespir.
